Here we go!!  The audition process is complete, and the 2010 Carolina Thunder ensemble is about to begin rehearsals for the upcoming season.  Some exciting new performance formats are in the works for this year, so be sure to catch them around Charlotte for more thrilling THUNDER action.  A full 2010 schedule will be posted very soon, so be sure to check back with us often.  Happy groovin' to all in 2010!!!

Headlock has been around since the 1998 inaugural season of Carolina Thunder.  Written by Wayne Viar and David Harris, this warm-up will forever be a family favorite.

Carolina Thunder to Play Mapex Drums

Charlotte, NC – Carolina Thunder Drumline is pleased to announce a new partnership with The Music Center of Gastonia and Mapex Drums to use MAPEX QUANTUM Marching Percussion equipment exclusively for their performances, including Carolina Panthers home games.

Jason Gilchrist, Music Center sales representative, says, “We are proud to provide an opportunity for this talented group of musicians to play the finest quality Mapex marching drums.  It is a privilege to give back to our community."

About Carolina Thunder
Originally founded as a youth marching percussion ensemble, Carolina Thunder participated in Winter Guard International from 1998 through 2001. The ensemble was well known for innovation in the activity, setting new trends in musical arrangements and program design.  During their tenure, Carolina Thunder placed in Winter Guard International World Class percussion finals each year of their participation.

The Carolina Thunder Drumline was resurrected in the summer of 2008 as an adult performing ensemble for pre-game activities at Carolina Panthers home games. This unique, high-energy group made appearances in ’08 and ’09 at Bank of America Stadium and 2010 promises even more involvement and exciting performance opportunities for the ensemble.

The Quantum Marching Project is a collaborative effort between Jupiter brass, Mapex drums and Majestic percussion brands to offer a full series of marching and pit instruments. Auditions Exercise: Suplex

Carolina Thunder is proud to announce the return of "Suplex," a double-beat exercise from the 1998 ensemble.  This exercise concentrates heavily on the double-beat passages while exponding upon the duple meter.  Please memorize this piece if you are planning to audition for the 2010-2011 ensemble.
